Hi, today in this post we’ll learn something about the computer and the computing system.

What is computer?

Computer is an English word which originated from the word “Compute”. The meaning of compute is “to calculate” or “to determine”. This is why, because computer can calculate and also can determine. So from this discussion we can say that, Computer is a type of machine which can perform quickly logical task given by human and can produce the result. The task of computer is increasing day by day. As a result different types of definition is found from different sources. And for this reason we can’t limit the definition of computer with in a few words or with in some few words.

Now a days almost all of us use computer for our daily purpose. The computer which we uses for our personal purpose is called personal computer. The uses of computer in different purpose is increasing day by day.

Functional organization of computer

The architecture of computer is built with its mechanical parts. If we know the architecture of the computer, then we can be able to know about the functional working system of the computer. The main parts of computer is divided into three parts based on its working system. The parts are :

1. Input device
2. CPU (Central Processing Unit)
3. Memory
4. Output

The computer take data from the user , through which parts the computer accepts data is called input system or input device. For example, we can say that, through keyboard, we can input data to the computer. So the keyboard is a input device. The accepted data is processed in CPU that is Central Processing Unit. Thus the CPU has become Arithmetic and Logical unit of a computer. The data is kept in a memory. Finally the processed data is displayed in the monitor or through the printer. SO here monitor or printer is working as output device.

The parts of computer are mainly divided by two types. They are:

Software and hardware

These hardware and software has also many classification. You can see the classification through this:

Hardware of a system:

The physical visual mechanical parts of a computer is marked as hardware of a computer. Hardware of a computer includes IC or Integrated Circuit, microprocessor, motherboard, RAM, ROM, CD-Drive etc.

Central Processing Unit (CPU):

It is said that, the CPU is the main part of a computer as it does the logical operation and processing of a system. In this system unit there is microprocessor chip is located. Sometimes it is considered that the internal memory is also a part of this unit. The CPU of a computer is compared to human brain. It is because, the brain controls the almost all parts of the body, , like CPU also compare all the parts like the input, output device of the computer. The input device accepts the input data and send it to the CPU. CPU perform a logical operation and send it to the output section. This CPU functions mainly three types. They are:

1. Arithmetic and Logical unit (ALU)
2. Control Unit
3. Memory

 

Arithmetic and Logical Unit:

The ALU unit performs almost all types of mathematical and logical operation, which means analysis of data and calculation is performed in this section.

Control Unit

The task of this unit is to control all the system according to the input command. According to the capacity of the system how many data can be inputted, how about the processing section performing, which data will remain for processing, this type of works is done by this unit.

Memory

The inputted data is not directly saved in the memory. The inputted data is processed and analyzed and saved into an internal disk. In shortly, we can say that, computer saves all its data in a disk which is called the Memory.
